As we head into another Tournament Season figured was a good time to post some helpful videos for tying some of the most common fishing knots. The most important thing with knots is having confidence in your knot(s) of choice and being able to tie them quickly and efficiently when needed.

Lets get started… Below is the improved clinch knot (or Fishermans knot). Super easy to tie. Remember you can double loop thru hook/tackle eye for increased strength. This knot will slip sometimes and doesn’t work the best with fluorocarbon lines in my opinion.

The Palomar knot is another easy to tie knot that works well. Some people also use it to tie dropshot rigs though we will show what I think is an even better knot for drop shots further below….

Below are two simple loop knots that you can use if you want to tie on a lure and allow it to have a bit more freedom in movement through the water. I prefer the Rapala loop knot but both work well.

When tying a bait to fluorocarbon line I have had issues with knot slippage and breaking. After discussing these two knots that problem went away. Both knots end up with three tag ends. Checkout these two techniques. These knots also work very well with monofilament and braided lines.

I learned below knot a year or so ago for tying a dropshot rig. This works much better than a Palomar knot in my opinion and is easier to tie. Plus you never have to adjust your hook to keep it where you want it in a perfect horizontal position with hook point facing upwards. Give this a try. For some reason the video embed isn’t working so check out below link to video…

For braided line to a leader the best knot I have used is the FG Knot. Super Strong and very small size. Disclaimer, this one is a bit more difficult and time consuming so might also be good to learn an alternative that will work better when out on the water. I usually tie the FG knot the night before a day of fishing and it generally lasts all day. Some other knots to learn might be the Albright, Alberto, or double uni knot.

Also, with the FG Knot I had trouble with it sometimes coming unraveled during the day. This problem was solved by finishing the knot using a Rizzuto Finish. I have provide three videos here. The first video is great demonstration on how to tie the FG knot step by step however, I do not use the way he shows finishing the knot with overhand knots. I use the Rizzutto Finish. The other two videos show the Rizzutto…

And finally, this is a great webpage resource that has many knot tying videos all in one place. Check it out here: https://sunlineamerica.com/pages/knots
