Hartley’s Hawgs Capture State Championship and Qualify Two Teams for Nationals

Hartley’s Hawgs anglers delivered an outstanding performance at the TBF/SAF State Championship at Alum Creek on Saturday, June 6, competing against teams from across Ohio. Fishing conditions were challenging throughout the day. Anglers faced mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies, and a strong thunderstorm moved through during the middle of the tournament, forcing competitors and boat captains to seek shelter before returning to the water. Despite the interruption, the anglers remained focused and made the most of their time on the lake. Leading the way for Hartley’s Hawgs were brothers Caleb and Isaac Johnson, who captured the State Championship with an impressive five-fish limit weighing

Hartley’s Hawgs Shine at 2026 Ohio Bass Nation Youth State Championship

Hartley’s Hawgs anglers had an outstanding weekend at the Ohio Bass Nation Youth State Championship, held May 30–31 at Salt Fork Lake under sunny and warm conditions. Despite the difficult fishing conditions and the limited number of bass caught throughout the event, the young anglers demonstrated perseverance, determination, and sportsmanship while representing Hartley’s Hawgs. Hartley’s Hawgs Team wins 2026 OBF Junior State Championship

What an incredible day on the water for the Hartley’s Hawgs teams at the Ohio Bass Federation Junior State Championship held on Mosquito Creek Lake near Cortland! A huge congratulations goes out to the team of Carter and Marlon for bringing home the State Championship victory! The anglers faced classic Northeast Ohio spring fishing conditions throughout the tournament. The day started overcast with rain and then temperatures climbed into the low 70s with breezy southwest winds creating challenging boat control and changing fishing patterns across the lake. Most importantly, we want to give a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteer boat captains. Your time, dedication, patience, and willingness

Member catches GGGiant

Congrats to Cooper on his great catch over spring break down in Texas. Weighed 9.1 pounds. This fish has been added to our Lunker Board. As fishing starts to pickup remember to submit your catches for entry on the lunker board. Tightlines everyone.

Bait Making Event

The Hartley’s Hawgs members had a blast at the annual club bait making event. The Columbus Bassmasters helped the kids melt soft plastics and create new soft plastic baits. There were also lessons on powder coating jig heads and making jig skirts. A huge thanks to the Columbus Bassmaster for all of their guidance in making the lures, and a big thanks to the Johnstown Sportsman Club for hosting the event!

History

Hartley’s Hawgs was formed several years ago by a father and son team of Robert and Dustin Evans to further the fishing efforts of youth in central Ohio that had no other venues to bass fish competitively.  The club was named after Charlie Hartley who is a graduate and founder of the Walnut Springs Middle School Fishing Club and professional bass fisherman / Classic contender. Charlie is kept informed of the events of the club as well as attending some of the events of Hartley’s Hawgs and Walnut Springs fishing clubs for instructional purposes and also taking anglers fishing at state level.

Over the years the Hartley’s Hawgs have had members from all around central Ohio as well as kids from other areas of the state that did not have other club fishing opportunities available.
