The Hartley’s Hawgs Team of Nathan and Brett placed 10th out of 398 teams in 2021 World Championship and 10th out of 236 teams in the 2021 National Championship. This event was put on by the Student Angler Federation and is a unique dual-format event as described in the Tournament Flowchart. The team of Mikey and Braden had high hopes going into the 2019 Jr National Tournament having both fished in National Tournaments in the past. The duo put that experience to good use putting together two solid days of fishing to claim the Bassmaster Jr National Championship held in Huntingdon, Tennessee on August 6 – August 7, 2019! This past weekend, April 29-30, the Hawgs High School and Juniors competed for the 2023 OBN State Championship on Alum Creek Lake. Saturday was a cool overcast morning with some clearing in the afternoon while Sunday morning a cold front with wind and cold rains worked thru the area. The weather didn’t slow the fishing as several nice bags were brought to the scales. Unfortunately the Hawgs did not qualify any teams for the BASS National Championships (top two places qualify), but several teams from both the Juniors and High School were very near the top of the standings. Zak Davis was a former Walnut Springs and Hartley’s Hawgs member who tragically lost his life in a car accident. His family has created a memorial foundation in Zak’s honor to promote and support Zak’s passion of fishing. This year marks the third year of the ZakFest fundraiser. On 3/12/23 the club met to make plastic baits from recycled plastics. All of the anglers seemed to have a good time and they all were able to take home many bags of baits. The Gahanna Bass Anglers 42nd Annual Hoover Reservoir Open Bass Tournament is being held on Saturday May 13, 2023.
