On Sunday, 6/4/23 the club got together at the Johnstown Sportsman Club for some pond fishing and a lunch get together. Some pictures from the pond outing are posted below. Several Hawgs Teams travelled to southern Ohio to compete in the SAF State championship held on the Ohio River out of Gallipolis on 6/3/23. It was tough fishing for many teams and none of the Hawgs Teams placed high enough to qualify for the upcoming SAF National Championship. The Hartley’s Hawgs had several teams competing in the 2023 OBF Tournament May 13, 2023 on Alum Creek. The morning started off raining but cleared as the day progressed. This past weekend, April 29-30, the Hawgs High School and Juniors competed for the 2023 OBN State Championship on Alum Creek Lake. Saturday was a cool overcast morning with some clearing in the afternoon while Sunday morning a cold front with wind and cold rains worked thru the area. The weather didn’t slow the fishing as several nice bags were brought to the scales. Unfortunately the Hawgs did not qualify any teams for the BASS National Championships (top two places qualify), but several teams from both the Juniors and High School were very near the top of the standings. Zak Davis was a former Walnut Springs and Hartley’s Hawgs member who tragically lost his life in a car accident. His family has created a memorial foundation in Zak’s honor to promote and support Zak’s passion of fishing. Each year the Foundation organizes and runs the ZakFest fundraiser event. The 2024 event will be held on June 22, 2024 between 12 noon – 3pm at Hoff Woods Park in Westerville, Ohio. Additionally, in 2024 the Foundation announced the creation of a $500 Scholarship for a Hartley’s Hawgs Angler that will be attending college.
