The Hartley’s Hawgs competed in the 2022 Ohio Bass Nation State Championship. This was a two day tournament for both High School and Junior teams held 4/30/22 and 5/1/22 on Rocky Fork Lake. The Duo of Archer and Hayden took home the win in the Junior Division! The Team of Jake and Drew were 2nd in the High School Division. Both teams earned a spot in the 2022 BASS National Championship. For the first time the Hartley’s Hawgs program will be having members continue competitive fishing at the College Level. Four seniors recently signed their letters of intent to join College Fishing Programs while pursuing a college degree. Great to see the continued growth of the sport and additional opportunities for these anglers. These college fishing programs will allow these young men to travel around the country competing against many other talented college anglers and will also offset some of the costs associated with the travel and participation in these college tournaments. Big Thank You to Jason Root for taking the time this past weekend to meet with nearly twenty of our Hartley’s Hawgs Club Members. Also thanks to Fishermans Central for hosting us up at their Port Clinton store. Additionally big thank you to the Ike Foundation for providing some rod/reel combos to give to the kids attending the session! Jason shared his knowledge of fishing in Northern Ohio and elsewhere. He also engaged with the kids and had the kids pick some baits at the store so he could talk about those baits and the type of equipment and presentation methods with those different baits.Read More →

Several upcoming meetings for the Hartley’s Hawgs. This Sunday 1/23 former Hartley’s Hawgs member and great young angler Jeremy Reese will be speaking with the club. Next Sunday, 1/30 Rich Carter will be demonstrating some rod building techniques. In February we have the very energetic Charlie Hartley speaking with the club and also have an event up at Fishermans Central in Port Clinton with Jason Root speaking. We now have schedules for our three major tournaments for 2022. OBF has set the Junior Championship for May 7, 2022 on O’Shaughnessy Lake (with Alum Creek as backup) and the High School Championship for July 17, 2022 on Sandusky Bay. Happy 2022. We are gearing up to start some club activities in the coming weeks. The first order of business is to take care of Club Paperwork/Forms and Dues for the season. Dues for the season are $225 ($50 of which goes toward raffle). To simplify the forms for 2022 all have been placed on the website forms page and each form has been numbered #1 – 7 with a brief explanation of each form. #1-4 are required forms. #5-7 are only required if applicable. Both MLF and BASS have released their 2022 HS Open Tournament Schedules. Great to see these organizations continuing to provide these opportunities for youth anglers. Four member of the Hartley’s Hawgs travelled to Decatur Alabama to attend the 1st ever BASS HS Combine. This was a unique event that brought together College Fishing programs from around the country with perspective HS Anglers looking to continue fishing in college. The Boys were able to speak with coaches from several colleges and also participated in a skills competition as part of the event. The Hartley’s Hawgs sent one team to compete for the BASS Jr. National Championship in Tennessee to compete against over 60 teams from all across the country. The duo of Brooks and Grant did a great job and finished 3rd in the nation and brought in the big bass for the event with an 8#-1oz Hawg! Way to go boys! Brooks and Grant qualified for the event through the Ohio Bass Nation State Championship held earlier in the year. Three Hartley’s Hawgs Teams travelled to Michigan to compete in the MLF High School Open held on August 21, 2021 and launching from the Detroit River. The tournament was open to Lake St Clair, the Detroit River and Lake Erie and our teams fished all three of these waters looking for quality fish. Each duo brought in a five fish limit and from post tournament reports were catching good numbers. The winning team from NW Ohio weighed in a very solid bag of 24#-6 oz.
